Boxcar might be the first solo restaurant venture from founder Barry Hirst…
…but it’s already on the right tracks.
It’s an airy, bi-level space occupying a terraced Marylebone townhouse, that raids the best cuts from its sibling butchery and deli round the corner to serve up tasty grub made from top-notch, ethically sourced, all-British meat.
Spread over both floors with an al fresco patio and a basement level that doubles as a private dining room, it’s an expansive space decked out with exposed natural wood, copper accents and slate grey tiling in a throwback to traditional British butchers. Here they’re serving up a simple menu of classics; steak & chips (250g of sirloin for £15), burgers, and vegetarian tarts and salads, while the barkeeps are throwing together classic cocktails and pouring from a slick wine and beer selection.
