The Hotdog.
Despite its longstanding aspiration to become more… to be more… it only ever managed to attract the attention of BBQ-ers, cinema-goers and – at the very peak of its humble ascendancy – street food aficionados.
A life, unfulfilled. Until, of course, James Knappett and Sandia Chang decided to open Bubbledogs in 2012, giving hot dogs a little Fitzrovia restaurant all of their very own… paired with a champagne bar.
The pandemic unfortunately burst the bubble, at which point James and Sandia decided to give the space over to the bonus restaurant they had tucked behind a curtain at the back (a sweet little double-Michelin starred outfit known as Kitchen Table). But this tale has more zig-zags than a slick of ketchup, because Bubbledogs is returning for a brief spell this summer in pop-up form – and where else, but on the al fresco terrace adjoining the lavish 45 Park Lane hotel.
Overseen by CUT exec chef Elliott Grover, the menu will once more offer the contrast of a glass of under-appreciated “grower” Champagne with a choice of ‘dogs that includes the Native Dog (crispy native lobster tempura, Marie Rose sauce, beluga caviar); the Kagoshima (A5 Wagyu striploin, Japanese mayo & shaved summer truffle); and the Fourth of July (with spicy BBQ sauce, coleslaw & crispy bacon).
And if you want dessert, but still aren’t finished eating hotdogs? The dilemma is conveniently solved with their dessert hotdog – it’s a chocolate hotdog with a Jivara chocolate ganache, all stuffed in a long sweet cinnamon brioche bun.
NOTE: Bubbledogs will be at 45 Park Lane from 10th May – 29th September 2024. You can make a reservation HERE.
