Caravan King’s Cross | Casual All Day Dining and House Roasted Coffee
One experience, beyond all others, is guaranteed to mess with your ch’i.
And that’s being inside a caravan.
It’s a big problem: 91% of murderers claim to have first experienced unnatural levels of frustration, anxiety and rage as children while on holiday…. in a caravan.
Which is exactly why the Caravan King’s Cross outpost is so perfectly ironic.
It’s huge.
You’ll find the restaurant and bar (the first sibling for Caravan in Exmouth Market, now followed by Caravan Bankside, Caravan City, and Caravan Fitzrovia) inside a vast section of an old grain store, where wood, metal and exposed brickwork have been cleverly combined – presumably with the assistance of a Feng Shui master or two – to produce the kind of working factory environment that you’d be happy to do yoga in…
…but probably happier to eat brunch in.
Perched on Granary Square, Caravan King’s Cross is one of our top picks for al fresco dining in London, with a sizeable outdoor terrace sitting right in the sun. It’s a peaceful place, but also (thanks to a soundtrack that takes in everything from Mungo Jerry to Dirty Dancing) a feet-tappingly upbeat one.
A big cocktail list (alongside vermouths, cognacs, and house-made ferments) complement the large open kitchen’s range of small plates (seabass crudo with truffled soy; jamón and San Simon cheese croquettes with saffron aioli; crispy pork belly with tamarind caramel); large plates (confit duck with braised cavolo nero; roasted squash with harissa) and puddings (liquorice cheesecake; yuzu posset and vanilla ice cream with espresso salted caramel).
You should probably also know that Caravan King’s Cross is likely to become your new favourite spot for brunch in London, thanks to the combination of an on-site coffee roastery and dishes like aubergine purée and soft boiled egg on toast; fried jalapeño cornbread; and slow-roast pork belly with kimchi pancake.
But we had you at “espresso salted caramel”, right?
NOTE: Caravan King’s Cross is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner all week long. You can book a table via their website HERE.
