There’s no need to stand on ceremony here.
Mainly because they have plenty of chairs for you, but also because this Tufnell Park resto blows all the usual expectations of a no-meat eatery straight out the water, under the motto that “this isn’t your usual vegetarian restaurant”.
Nestled on a row of independent eateries, it’s the kind of elegant, intimate little gem whose convivial glow seems to spill right onto the street. Make your way inside, and you’ll be greeted with a gentle candlelit hubbub emanating from the secluded booths towards the back, a flurry of activity behind the turquoise-tiled centrepiece cocktail bar, and welcoming nods from the stylish details like the atomic-era lighting and mid-century seating.
The menu is entirely vegetarian, and entirely delicious. Compact, it cuts all the fluff and nonsense and instead promises perfect execution on every plate. You can (and should) start off with the crispy duck egg, elegantly balanced on a salty slick of polenta and wild mushrooms, or a couple of the small plates like the courgette fritters or pickles plucked from their garden out the back.
Please, please order this.
Then its time to move onto the mains – pappardelle smothered in a creamy pea purée and topped with pea shoots and roasted hunks of celeriac; sweet potato curry with biryani rice; and moreish dumplings swimming in a hearty white bean broth – all before you find room for their chocolate brownie, fragrant berry pavlova, or lemon posset.
Since the owners are none other than ex-Milk & Honey bartender Joe Stokoe and London Beer Week creative director, Ali Dedianko, the drinks are given equal attention, ranging from an eclectic pick of craft beers including a samphire sour, to carefully executed cocktails like the Perfect Ceremony – a fluffy apricot gin sour.
Just be warned… you might not be standing after that.
NOTE: Ceremony is now open, and you can book a table on their website HERE.
