Australian cuisine.

It’s not just prison food.

A fact more than exemplified by Dandy, who’ve moved out of their shipping container space in London Fields into an actual, bonafide bricks-and-mortar restaurant. Of course, when we say ‘bricks-and-mortar’ what we mean is white-painted breeze-block walls, with an unpolished concrete floor, simple wooden furnishings, a large coffee bar, and plant pots dotted around, well, everywhere.

Dandy Cafe

On the menu, and in keeping with Australia’s globally inspired food scene, you’ll find a broad sweep of culinary styles, with starters like scorched mackerel with green chilli granita; lamb meatballs with spiced yoghurt; and beets with smoked cod roe & egg yolk. Scaling up, the main courses involve the likes of lamb kofta on flatbreads with slow-cooked eggs; barbecued radicchio with blood orange, miso, and nori; and cod fillet op top of maize, charred corn, and brown crab with candied cumquat.

To drink, they’ve got a whole slew of craft coffees (Australian, after all, are the best in the world at coffee), and the place acts as a wine shop too, so you can score a bottle of their many natural vinos to take with you after.

It’s not like they’re keeping you prisoner, after all.
