The Delamina Townhouse is, indeed, in a townhouse.
It’s a beautiful, Grade II-listed Georgian number on a relatively quiet nook of Covent Garden, just opposite Charles Dickens’ former publishing house. And in terms of its other neighbours, you could literally throw a stone from the front door and hit Balthazar, Cafe Murano, or The Opera Tavern. Basically, if you wanted a restaurant to succeed, this is where you’d put it. And the Delamina Townhouse very much succeeds.
It’s actually the sister stop to Delamina Kitchen over in Marylebone, but this Covent Garden spot has a charm all its own. Inside, it’s light and airy, with olive-green banquettes, distressed wood tables, and plants dotted thoughtfully around—stylish but not self-conscious. The open kitchen gives a pleasantly buzzing atmosphere, and the staff keep things relaxed.
The food follows suit, leaning into Levantine and Eastern Mediterranean flavours that are punchy but approachable. The menu is built for sharing, which means it’s entirely too easy to over-order, and frankly you should. To start, a fat, fluffy cloud of kubaneh bread comes dipped in zhoug, tahini, and smokey aubergine. Th follow, the char-roasted cauliflower is tender & delicious, and bejewelled with pomegranates. But the spiced lamb tagliata might just steal the show.
The drinks are no afterthought. Cocktails nod to the Mediterranean, with options like the Bharat-infused negroni, or the rum-powered dessert drink ‘Jaffa I’ve Mist You’. which comes with candied orange syrup & elderflower. The overlap of spices means it all pairs up with the food extremely well.
We can’t be sure what Dickens would have made of it, but it certainly is something to write home about.
NOTE: The Delamina Townhouse is open now, seven days a week. You can find out more and make a booking at the Delamina website.
