Dead Dolls House Islington

Dead Dolls House Islington | Angel Restaurant & Bar

It’s 2am.

You’re in Islington, and looking for danger.

But you’ll settle for a quiet nightcap. Or twelve.

Every bar has either closed or is closing, but – as always – you have an ace up your sleeve… which you promptly play by taking your guests to Dead Dolls House on Upper Street, the glorious reincarnation of the recently demised, and much loved, Hoxton house of the same name.

As Team You arrive, you promptly note that a large number of people have – for reasons which confuse you – also decided to visit the only venue in the area with a 4am licence. These people are gambling: some of them may get in, but others will not. You, however, certainly will because you have a Dead Dolls House membership card, which you received after filling in a simple online form and gifting your hosts, The Dead Dolls Club, a bottle of something nice.

So your rabble shimmy straight in to what used to be the ground floor pub of The House Of Wolf but is now a contemporary, glitter ball-heavy interpretation of a 1940s Chicago music hall serving up strong drinks, live jazz and the house DJ’s selection of upbeat jazz, blues, lindy hop and funk-focused foot tappers.

But you ain’t in the mood for funk-focused foot tapping tonight. So you swiftly head upstairs, past the quiet little Drawing Room and the Library (which serves nine varieties of espresso martini) before ascending even higher into the private members’ lounge. Enveloped by exposed brickwork – and featuring the largest glitter ball that’s ever been squeezed into a room of this size – it’s actually a restaurant until 11:30pm, delivering a simple menu of comforting British fare like rib of Hereford beef; creamy devilled mushroom casserole; chocolate coffee cups and rhubarb crumble.

Bag a 9pm reservation, and – whether you’re a member or not – you’ll be invited to stay in there until closing time.

Could be a looong night…

NOTE: The Dead Dolls House Islington is now open (every day except Mondays). Entry before 10pm is free, and entry after 10pm is £5. Members have free entry, priority access on the door and access to the post 11:30pm members’ club. Anyone can make reservations for the restaurant directly HERE.
