‘Don’t Tell Dad’ is a phrase that evokes an effervescent mix of guilt & nostalgia, and almost all of us have probably uttered it at some point. And that includes restaurateur Daniel Land, who has chosen the name for his forthcoming bakery & dinner spot up in Queen’s Park in honour of his late sister.
It’s opening this coming January, and he’s assembled an absolutely A+ team to help pull it off, with the restaurant menu being taken care of by head chef Luke Frankie (whose glittering CV includes places like Noble Rot, Forza Wine, and Spring), and the bakery is going to be the domain of head baker Keren Sternberg, who is fresh from the ovens at the carby paradise that is Layla.
But the tastiest bit is the fact that he’s giving Nudge Members +3 first dibs on soft launch bookings, with 50% off the food bill and an exclusive complimentary box of treats from the bakery to take home too, for a fortnights-worth of dates across the festive season & new year (20th-22nd & 29th December, 2nd-5th & 7th-12th January). So what are we in for? Well, by day the place will be a bakery, slinging the likes of hazelnut brown butter croissants; honey-poached quince & pistachio Danishes; and artichoke, sage & Lancashire cheese Pain Suisse. And naturally you’ll be able to get a loaf of top-shelf bread & a great cup of coffee (courtesy of 15Grams) too.
Then, as things move into dinner territory, the tables are set, Frankie takes over, and Anglo-French dishes are bussed out including crab tart with crab oil mayonnaise & watercress; roast pumpkin with brown butter, hazelnut & crispy sage; and spiced mallard with celeriac & Swiss chard.
Both chef and baker will be working together across both spaces, collaborating with each other on dishes, and we can probably expect a lot of excellent booze to go with it too…
