Eel sushi bar has just opened in Notting Hill – and because it comes to us from the edgily cool, we-sit-at-the-back-of-the-bus team at Dorian, it’s got “no omakase horsesh*t and ponce” and is just a sushi bar.

Which, frankly, is actually quite refreshing.

Especially because they’re explicitly labelling it as “low priced“, which coming from these guys is a fairly bold move. For those in need of a refresher on their CVs, Dorian is the “anti-Notting Hill” restaurant that opened in (of all places) Notting Hill a couple of years ago, promptly won a Michelin Star, and went on to launch Urchin and Tuna Fight Club – two of the slickest, funnest sushi operations in the city. So they know what they’re doing.

They also happen to run the Notting Hill Fish + Meat Shop and the Supermarket of Dreams – a bougie grocery store stocked with painfully rarefied produce – which is convenient when the quality of your sushi largely depends on how good your fish is.

As for Eel: it’s a 10-seater squeezed into a tiny former antiques shop literally opposite Dorian. Wielding the knives is the excellently named chef Nicky Noodle, formerly of Dinings. And the wine? That comes from across the road, too – meaning, in their own humble estimation, it has “the best wine list of any sushi bar in the world”.

A bold claim. But they called their last sushi venture Tuna Fight Club, so we’re not going to argue.

NOTE: Eel sushi is set to open on May 10th. There’ll be 50% off sushi throughout May. It’ll be walk-in only, open seven days a week for both lunch and dinner. You can find out more on the Eel Sushi Insta.
