Giant Robot | A Futuristic Street Food Hub In Canary Wharf
Giant robots are coming to feed us all.
This is the Canary Wharf incarnation of the Street Feast family (which also includes street food heavyweights Dinerama, Hawker House and Model Market). It’s housed in a suitably futuristic metallic behemoth that almost floats on the steel suburb’s waterways, crowned with a panoramic wrap-around terrace boasting 360° views of the Docklands.
You’ll approach by wending your way through the Crossrail Place Roof Gardens; a kind of giant rooftop Eden Project. You’ll then emerge into what feels like a warehouse-meets-70s-departures lounge, with colourful fairground lighting stretching across the ceiling; concrete floors; and reclaimed tables and chairs interspersed with crowds of merry-makers.
There are three street food traders here, which currently include Street Feast stalwarts Yum Bun (Taiwanese stuffed buns that are, by all accounts, yum); Black Bear Burgers (home to colossal patties that mean business) and Thunderbird (purveyors of scientifically perfected fried chicken).
You’ll also find three bars in tow; the laid-back Can Hatch stocked with craft beer tins; the Beer Bar with 38 fresh brews on tap; and the Island Bar with half a dozen house cocktails on offer, including Watermelon Margaritas and White Lions, with rum, curaçao and muddled raspberries.
Add in a free cloakroom and a little shuffleboard, and it’s essentially the perfect after-work drinks spot. And with that uninterrupted stretch of al fresco balcony for a post-dinner sunset stroll…
…You won’t be making a short circuit.
NOTE: Giant Robot is open daily from 11am-10pm (midnight towards the end of the week). There’s no entry fee. Find out more right HERE.
