The ol’ Goat In Boots is going barefoot.

The ex-Chelsea pub (still in Chelsea, no longer a pub) has been given a swanky reboot resulting, ironically, in a de-boot, and the gain of a secret speakeasy, NYC-inspired Italian menu and a slick new look, combining moody wall colours with touches of antique metal and industrial lighting.

You’ll enter the building, perhaps stopping by the reception to learn the evening’s passcode for the speako en route, before heading to the upstairs cocktail bar. Here you’ll find twists on old classics, like their house Old Fashioned which uses cold buttered bourbon and bitters; actual old classics, like the 1916 recipe Aviator with gin, citrus and violet; and cocktails that aren’t at all classic but nonetheless excellent, like the peanut butter daiquiri, perhaps following up with a cocktail masterclass in the Old Fashioned Cocktail Club, should you be so fortuitous/organised to visit on certain Thursdays.

GOAT Chelsea Bar

With cheeks suitably ruddied, it’s time to sample the food; with mains ranging from slow-cooked rabbit with sweet potato and Jerusalem artichoke, to pepperoni and chilli-infused honey pizza. And of course, no self-respecting Italian-cum-Manhattan restaurant could finish with anything else but gelato and New York cheesecake.

Head there on a weekend, of course, and there’s bottomless brunch to be had, from full Italian breakfasts to brunch pizza and poached eggs, alongside bottomless fries, greens, beers, prosecco and Bloody Maries.

Oh, and chocolate brownie bites. To boot.
