Granger & Co. Chelsea

How do you like your eggs in the morning?

Poached? Fried? Or scrambled to the consistency of liquid velvet, draped indecently across a slab of St. John’s sourdough?

Those with a penchant for the latter should head for Granger & Co, the suite of London restaurants from ‘the egg master of Sydney’ (or Bill Granger to his friends).

The Chelsea branch is much like its older siblings in Notting Hill, Clerkenwell and King’s Cross, combining beautifully suave interiors (emerald velvet sofa seating, marble-topped tables, wood-slatted ceilings) with warm hospitality and a crowd-pleasing, broad-ranging menu. Unlike its siblings, however, it takes bookings for any time of day – making it a far more attractive option for brunch than Notting Hill, even if you live in Notting Hill.

You’ll find Granger & Co Chelsea tucked down Pavilion Road, a little semi-pedestrianised enclave that was recently redeveloped. Follow it long enough and you’ll end up at the back door of Harrods; but down at the Sloane Square end it has a properly local feel. Granted, ‘local’ here tends to translate to ‘pricey’, but the independent wine store, grocery and stationery shop make for nice browsing spots before you head into Granger & Co.

On the menu: dishes plucked from around the world and given a dusting of down under charm – shrimp burgers with lemongrass dressing and shaved radish; parmesan-crumbed chicken schnitzel with creamed corn; black lentil dahl with cauliflower rice and coconut yoghurt. Really, though, the star of the show is brunch – besides those iconic eggs you’ll find ricotta pancakes with banana and honeycomb butter; sweet corn fritters with roast tomato and bacon; and the ‘Fresh Aussie’ – a dish that makes the Full English look the builder’s bum of breakfasts, with jasmine tea-smoked salmon, poached eggs and steamed greens.

To drink, there’s a solid list of cocktails (including a sherry and vodka Bloody Mary and a cold drip Espresso Martini), as well as a bevy of smoothies, fresh juices and homemade sodas to placate the yummy mummy contingent…

…and a matcha and vanilla ice cream milkshake for everyone else.

NOTE: Granger & Co Chelsea is open daily from 7am-10pm (8am Sundays). You can reserve a table, and find out more, HERE.
