Il Bordello | Authentic Italian in Wapping
While most people assume that Wapping isn’t even in London, it’s in fact located right next to the beautiful St. Katherine Docks by the Tower of London. A fortunate few, including Dame Helen Mirren, Delia Smith CBE and, erm, Graham Norton even live there. Which makes Wapping – if not cool – at least validated as a residential area in Central London.
Many restaurants have opened, and quickly closed, their doors in Wapping over the last few years. However Il Bordello has truly stood the test of time, attracting regulars from not only the local area but visitors from around the world. Despite the site’s landlord deciding not to renew the lease after two decades of bustling trade, Il Bordello has recently moved – though not far away – and is still as great as it ever was.
It’s the jewel in Wapping’s crown: a truly authentic Italian restaurant, complete with red and white chequered tablecloths and 90 year old waiters who – despite having worked there for at least 1000 years between them – still appear to avoid speaking English unless they really have to.
Always packed each and every evening of the week, it’s always worth a visit.
