Gymkhana. Hoppers. BAO. The KFC at the Clacket Lane Services.
The JKS restaurant group may only run three of these extraordinary restaurants, but that’s enough to know that they have a knack for this sort of thing. So it’s definitely good news that they’re taking over the space formerly known at Arcade Food Theatre.
For those who never went, Arcade was a huge, and hugely ambitious food hall at the base of the Centre Point building. It had a lot going for it in terms of its food offering, but it was also quite pricey. Something they can’t be blamed for, however, was the timing. Opening an operation that absolutely demanded massive volumes of footfall towards the end of 2019… well, it wasn’t terrific.
In any case it closed, and JKS have swooped in to pick up the pieces. And they aim to reassemble those pieces into something quite novel. They’re calling it a “digital food hall”, in which instead of getting a buzzing pager or a text message telling you to pick up your order, now the food will simply come to you. Maybe they’ve stumbled across the future. Or maybe they’ve just invented the waiter. The point is that several different restaurants worth of food can arrive, depending on what you order.
Speaking of, the specific details of the restaurants themselves are currently being kept under wraps, they have revealed the dots they’re pinning on the culinary map. You can expect eight different cuisines, ranging from Spanish tapas through to Japanese sushi, American-style burgers, North Indian fast food, regional Thai curries, Indonesian street food, and all the way through to Middle Eastern shawarma.
On top of all that, there’s going to be another independent restaurant on the mezzanine level, a standalone bar, a couple of counter-dining options for sandwiches & pastries, and something they’re calling an “immersive dessert experience”.
We cannoli guess what that means.
NOTE: Arcade Food Theatre is set to relaunch under JKS’s stewardship in November. We’ll be back then with the full scoop. In the meantime, you can find out more at the website right HERE.
