Little Cellars | Small plates & low-intervention wines in South London
Nothing sells Peckham’s flourishing food & wine scene quite like Peckham Cellars.
Since opening in 2019, it’s been a tentpole of the area’s increasingly enviable lineup of wine bars & restaurants, establishing itself as one of Peckham’s best bars thanks to its well-curated collection of low intervention & natural wines. So, they decided to open up a follow-up. This is Little Cellars.
You’ll find it down Camberwell Church Street (just opposite Veraison Wines). In fact, if you step out of the front door of Peckham Cellars, turn right and walk in a straight line, you’ll get there in roughly half an hour. Inside, racing green walls meet a horizon of white, like a field covered in snow. The warm wooden furnishings & floor are lit by dangling globe lights, and there are candles on every table. Throw in the jazzy soundtrack emanating from the turntable in the corner, and you have an intimate, cosy, and warmly inviting atmosphere.
The small open kitchen at the back of the space is the domain of chef Ollie Lawrance (former kitchen commander at the greatly missed Terroirs), where he’s cooking up the likes of prawns brasied in sherry, garlic, chilli & lemon; a hyper tender confit chicken leg with coco beans & wild mushrooms; and some crispy basil & pecorino arancini with braised peppers, ricotta & smoked pecorino. It’s all pretty delicious, and importantly, very wine-friendly.
Speaking of, the list of vinos is a tightly curated collection geared towards low-intervention & natural numbers – and they’re all available by the glass too (from £6+), including red, white, rosé, sparkling, and even a trio of orange vintages. On top of all that, you’ll find vermouths, beers, and a couple of cocktails (literally just two: an old fashioned and a negroni).
All told? This place is looking like it’s going to be one of the area’s best Cellars.
