On The Dak | Korean Fried Chicken in Covent Garden
Korean fried chicken.
Truly, this is Seoul food.
And quite possibly the best place in London to get it – On The Bab – have decided to open a restaurant dedicated to the stuff. It’s in Covent Garden, just off the Seven Dials, and it’s appropriately called On The Dak.
The place itself is small but functional, with white-painted brick walls, distressed wooden fittings, and a very fast-casual vibe; the menu is designed to be to-go as much as to-stay. And that menu focuses it’s attention squarely on chicken in all its glorious (but mostly fried) forms:
You can get the original crispy fried bird coated in flavours like sweet soy, soft garlic, and Seoul-style spicy, or even thrown into a light, fluffy, Bao-style ‘Chibun’ (that’s ‘chicken bun’). If you’re after something a little bulkier, then you can always have your chicken as a BBQ ‘Chibab’ (that’s ‘chicken kebab’) with rice, or in the form of some classic Korean pulled chicken noodle soup.
They’ve got here types of kimchi (tomato, coriander, original) to go with all of the fried fowl, as well as some crunchy soy-pickled garlic, and a cabbage salad.
It’s worth crossing the road for.
NOTE: On The Dak is open now. You can find out more, and check out their whole, chicken-ey menu at their website right HERE.
