First things first, let’s just be clear.
This restaurant is not trying to serve you raw duck.
What it is doing is knocking together nourishing meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner (and of course, brunch at weekends) in its breezy Hackney home.
With pared back decor using unvarnished wood and concrete, the space is every bit as clean as the eating. Here, there’s a strong focus on pickles, ferments and salts, with a particularly potent offering of drinking vinegars and seasonal kombuchas, like sweet spiced quince kefir water and hot cider vinegar with heather honey. Buuut, if that’s a stretch too far, you’ll be glad to hear there are more familiar drinks on offer too, with select pickings from natural and biodynamic wine producers.
The rest of the menu is based on the changing availability of produce with the seasons, with lunch and dinner offering plates like mussels with fennel and fregola pasta, cured pork, roast jerusalem artichoke salad, and salt-cured monkfish with clementine and chilli. Breakfast and brunch, meanwhile, will treat you to dishes like curried potatoes with salt beef and double fried egg, and toasted rye with toasted rye, smoked mackerel and miso butter.
And though it’s all healthy stuff, it’s also filling.
So you won’t be getting a raw deal.
