SILVA

When you consider that SILVA is parked on one of the most expensive streets, in one of the most expensive neighbourhoods, in one of the most expensive cities on earth, it doesn’t come as some mind-blowing plot twist to learn that it isn’t particularly cheap.

But it is really, really good. And considering the bang-average meals you could get for the same price (hovering around £50 for two courses) that makes it genuinely pretty good value, too.

Silva

Nestled in the plush, secluded surrounds of Mayfair’s Bruton Place — home to culinary heavyweights like The Cocochine, the Guinea Grill, and Umu — Silva is a genuinely beautiful and serene eatery. Designed by the team at Atelier Wren, it’s a place of understated luxury with undulating booth seating, soft grey furnishings accented by muted paintings, and a tranquil cocktail bar tucked away on the first floor for pre- and post-dinner drinks. There’s even a private 12-seater dining room for special occasions, and frankly it looks gorgeous.

Silva

The whole enterprise is the work of first-time restaurateur Daria Grebenyuk, who’s cannily decided to avoid the usual pitfalls of being a first timer restaurateur by assembling an absolutely first-class team of hospitality veterans: they include head chef Slawomir Sawicki (formerly of the Michelin Starred Galvin La Chapelle, Eric Chavot, Arts Club, etc.) and restaurant director Peter Prescott (veteran of Terence Conran’s ventures like Boundary). And their collective expertise is evident in both the menu and the service.

Silva

The food is seasonal, global, and pretty bloody indulgent. Chef Sawicki draws inspiration from Japan to the Mediterranean, and at breakfast they’ll furnish you with a fluffy crab & Gruyère omelette, or some coconut porridge with caramelised banana & blackberry jam. Then, as the day drawn on, lunches and dinners become increasingly more vibe and intimate, with music & cocktails abounding. Here, you’ll find starters like jewels of sashimi, or an amazing crispy fried egg with girolles, parmesan sauce & truffles. Mains include some unbelievably perfect lamb cutlets with charred aubergine purée & spiced olive jus, as well as an excellent spatchcocked poussin with fennel, mint & chilli.

As a wonderful companion to the excellent food, the staff are all impeccably polite and well-trained too.

You could say it’s the SILVA service.
