DJs and chefs have a lot in common: they both like mixing, they bring a lot to the (turn) tables, and they clearly don’t work well in analogies.
And to prove just how much they have in common: Smokey Tails.
Settling down into its first permanent home at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen – ST is the baby of DJ Seth Troxler, whose laundry list of acoustic accomplishment (playing everywhere from Glasto, to Coachella, to Fabric, to Burning Man) is only matched by the rabid love for his award-winning BBQ, which has seen sell-out popups in London, Melbourne, Sydney, Miami & Amsterdam.
The place itself is modestly decked out with plain wooden floors & furnishings punctuated by pop art, and a single, bright neon sign announcing the restaurant’s name that sits above the DJ booth. But let’s face it. You’re not here for the plush furnishings. You’re here for the menu…
…which rotates seasonally, and stretches from ‘cue classics like smoked pulled pork with pickled red cabbage (loaded with Troxler family BBQ sauce, made to a secret 120 year-old family recipe) and melt-in-the-mouth cherrywood smoked lamb ribs, along with slightly more boat-pushing numbers including spicy sofrito pork with pineapple salsa, or a miso-glazed aubergine salad.
Weather permitting, every Sunday will play host to an outdoor BBQ brunch (yay!), at which naturally, there’ll be cocktails.
After all, the two things have a lot in common.
NOTE: Smokey Tails is open from April 22nd. Opening hours are Monday – Sunday: 12pm – 11pm (closes 10pm on Sunday), with the addition of Saturday brunch (10am-12pm) and Sunday brunch (11am-1pm). You can book a table directly, or by calling 020 7613 0709.
