Sunday | Legendary North London Brunch Spot
Tucked away on a quiet residential street in Barnsbury is Sunday, a cosy neighbourhood cafe serving an all-embracing menu of mostly brunch dishes, in a rustic, laid-back setting.
And thankfully, it’s open nearly all week.
If you’re due a day off, we’d recommend heading there on a weekday, to avoid the lengthy weekend queues. Although that just speaks to the quality of the offering: generous, reasonably priced dishes that draw inspiration from all over the world. Their huevos rancheros with spiced black beans, chorizo and avocado will have you Googling last minute flights to Mexico, while their brioche French toast with vanilla crème fraîche, banana, and salted caramel will elicit all sorts of ooh la las.

They’re also particularly good when it comes to vegetarian options: thick-cut sautéed mushrooms and spinach on sourdough toast, topped with a poached egg; and courgette fritters with halloumi, avocado, poached egg, yoghurt, and dukkah are just two of many choices.
Past 12pm they also offer a few lunchier bits. A particular highlight is their curried sweet potato, peanut and coconut soup, served with warm flatbread on the side. If the weather allows for it, you can eat it al fresco in their little paved garden out back, followed by a coffee and slice of one of their freshly baked cakes. They serve an excellent spiced Bloody Mary, known to cure many an aching head. Otherwise there’s iced tea and a selection of fermented fruit sodas, dressed up in jam jars with fresh fruit and candy cane straws, all of which, ironically…
…do everything but suck.
NOTE: Sunday Barnsbury is open Tues-Fri 8.30am-5pm, and 9am-5pm on weekends. They don’t take bookings on weekends, but you can make a reservation for any other day on 0207 607 3868. They don’t have a website, but if you’re keen to explore more on their Facebook page you can do so here.
