We have some Supa news for you.
Cult noodle bar Supa Ya Ramen has come to Peckham.
First off, a bit of background information, in case you haven’t yet acquainted yourself with these super noodles: Supa Ya’s origin story started in chef-owner Luke Findlay’s home where he would play host to some of the most in-demand dinner parties in the city, until the demand very quickly outgrew the size of his kitchen. As it goes, word of mouth spread, pop-ups happened, residencies happened and the notion of a permanent place turned into a no-brainer – and then into a suitably congested 20-counter-seat shop on Dalston’s Kingsland Road.
A year later and he’s landed in Peckham, where he’s set himself up in the old Taco Queen space, keeping the same lay out and the simple wooden tables and chairs, but giving it a fresh lick of paint, some warm, low-hanging lighting, and a vibe-y new playlist to bop along to as you choose what to eat.
Before we get to that though, there’s the drinks – a small but noteworthy selection including their Nori Old Fashioned and a spicy Margarita, loaded up with chilli flakes (and tequila).
Of course the star of the show here is a lineup of extremely well-executed, deeply nourishing, always creative, and (as described by Findlay himself) ‘traditionally inauthentic’ ramen. The bowls – all finished with a signature fudgey egg – juggle between hot and cold depending on the season and what mood the weather’s in and include classics like the roast chicken & corn with buttered chilli sweetcorn, or the fried cabbage & cheese bowl, which is buried under a mountain of parmesan. Then there are new dishes, including the Cheeseburger Mazesoba, which somehow involves an entire burger patty plus bread & butter pickles, American cheese and burger sauce. In a bowl.
And for dessert? You can score some of their satisfyingly malty noodle ice cream drizzled with miso caramel.
Like we said, supa.
NOTE: Supa Ya Ramen Peckham is open now. There are no bookings. You can keep tabs on their Instagram to see what new madness is coming out of the kitchen.
