Sushisamba Heron Tower | Swanky Sky-High Drinking & Dining
As one of New York’s glitziest sushi restaurants, Sushisamba could have opened its first London outpost in a shed, and the crowds would still have come.
As it happens, they picked floors 38 & 39 in the City’s Heron Tower (just below Duck & Waffle), where, since 2012, they’ve been serving up some of the capital’s most impressive panoramic views alongside their unique fusion of Japanese/ Peruvian/ Brazilian food.
Aside from the main restaurant, set beneath a striking canopy of softly glowing lightbulbs, Sushisamba also boasts a brand new cocktail bar and a rooftop terrace, whose bar is centred around a life-size orange tree. But what else would you expect from somewhere named Sushisamba?
Well.
You can expect the dishes that have won the place unanimous praise across the globe, with wagyu gyoza and sweet soy sauce to start; before moving onto a yellowtail tiradito with jalapeño and lemongrass; pork belly Peruvian skewers scorched on the robata grill with butterscotch miso; or a good ol’ T-bone steak with burnt cabbage and yuka root fries. Oh, and sharing some alfajores for dessert, with dulce de leche, black salt, and actual gold.
After dinner, you’ll soak up sweeping views over the city in their new 39th floor bar, SAMBA ROOM. It’s one hell of a date spot, with a mirrored entranceway that leads to a sky-high spot with glamorous, retro decor and a central horseshoe bar. Here, they’re turning out a menu of original cocktails like the Toki Serenade, combining whisky, homemade umeshu, and cacao-infused twig liqueur, and the Lord of Miracles, which owes its lilac hue to purple yam, blended with coconut milk and pisco infused with Thai basil.
Oh, and that glossy structure up on the ceiling? That can be lowered to magically create a dining table, should you feel like hiring out the whole place as a private dining room for up to 26.
With those views, it’d be rude not to.
NOTE: Sushisamba is open daily. You can find out more, and reserve a table in the restaurant or SAMBA ROOM, here.
ALSO NOTE: If you can’t make it over to this location, check out their London branch, Sushisamba Covent Garden.
