The Betterment | Jason Atherton returns to Mayfair
Jason Atherton is back.
Not that he ever left.
But as he continues in his relentless expansion of his high-end restaurant empire, he’s now doing something for his own betterment too: he’s opening The Betterment. It’s going to be found in the The Biltmore hotel on Mayfair’s Grosvenor Square, and it’ll mark his return to the neighbourhood after it launched him into the culinary stratosphere while heading the kitchen at Maze for Gordon Ramsay in 2005.
Of course, he and the normally serene Gordon Ramsay managed to somehow get into a heated bust up, and parted ways. And now it’s surely a complete coincidence that this new venue is opening literally opposite Maze – or rather what was Maze, and is soon to be Ramsay’s new flagship Lucky Cat. Pure coincidence.
As one might expect in such a hotel, in such a neighbourhood, from such a man, it’s going to be luxuriant to say the least. Expect gold, marble, and leather to be freely splashed about in the most oh-so-beautiful ways. The kitchen will be run by Paul Walsh, who held the fort at City Social for five years (and won the place a Michelin Star within 7 months of opening). He’s going to be cooking up a menu of “wood-fired fish and meats, fresh seafood, signature salads and plant-based plates”, most of which will be rustled up on the huge open grill marking the centre of the open kitchen.
The whole venue will be quite large too, encompassing the restaurant itself plus a terrace, a tea lounge, and a place named The Pine Bar for drinks…
…which won’t do much for your own betterment.
NOTE: The Betterment is due to open this summer. We’ll be back then with the full scoop. In the meantime, you can find out more at the website for The Biltmore right HERE.
