The Jones Family Affair

Jones families.

Keeping up with them is easier said than done.

So, just to ensure you’re completely up to speed, here’s the lowdown: The Jones Family specialise in relaxed restaurants dedicated to steak & cocktails. After the covid fairy came along and permanently closed the doors on their Shoreditch flagship (The Jones Family Project) the kitchen-loving clan decided to come back stronger, and reopen in an even larger spot, this time in Covent Garden. This is the Jones Family Affair.

The place they’ve found is the former home of Les Deux Salons (Terence Conran’s French bistro), and it’s pretty huge. It’s set across two floors, with a huge atrium-style skylight punched right through the centre, a long marble bar guarding the entrance, and colourful furnishings dotted about the various spaces.

The menu is basically a showcase for their dry aged steak – supplied by Ginger Pig butchers, they’re all scorched on the charcoal-burning Josper grill, and include bone-in prime rib, and 55-day aged rump, and everything in-between. Elsewhere, the menu ticks boxes with everything from a Tamworth pork chop with chorizo & confit garlic; to a fillet of turbot with leeks & grilled cauliflower; a duck egg with wild mushrooms; and a whole, coal-baked onion with cavolo nero & labneh. There’s even a small potato menu filled with the likes of dauphinois, triple-cooked chips, and baked sweet pots with guacamole.

The liquid companionship is supplied by their extensive list of wines – over 30 by the glass – plus house-label beers on tap. But the real reason you’re here is the cocktails. They include the strong (The Almost Old Fashioned blends both whiskey and rum), the sour (including a fluffy Saffron Sour), the bitter (the Lost Negroni has a house-blend of vermouths and bitters) and the bubbly (the Apple Bellini throws Prosecco together with apple liqueur).

Typical Joneses.

After setting the bar already quite high for themselves, they’ve only gone and pushed it a little higher.

NOTE: The Jones Family Affair is open Tues-Sat, 12pm-12am. You can find out more, and make a booking at their website right HERE.
