Welcome to The Manor. It’s the second restaurant from the team behind The Dairy, and it serves fuss free and relaxed fine dining food which – if the owners were interested in words like ‘high profit margin’ and ‘lateral expansion’ – would cost three times as much.
But apparently they’re not.
We’ll make this bit a little less quick:
After you bag your reservation, make your way to Clapham and familiarise yourself with The Manor’s ‘barnyard chic’ chalky brick walls, scratched up old school desks and stone serving plates. Take a seat and you’ll immediately stand a relatively good chance of spotting a chef making their way out of the open kitchen in order to present you and your guests with an amuse bouche of homemade whipped chicken skin butter, served – like at The Dairy – beside freshly baked sourdough, balancing atop a smoking hot pebble inside a small hessian sack.
Because… Well, just because.
Here you’ll find dishes like spiced beef droëwors, hanger steak tartare with bone marrow, egg yolk and charred onion, and barbecued Jerusalem artichoke with fermented chicory and fresh cheese: perfect for pairing with their wine, beer, and lengthy list of specialty cocktails. Desserts, like the rest of the menu, are subject to seasonal change however unlike the rest of the menu they require you to make your way to the dedicated pudding bar, where you’ll find pastry chef Kita Ghidoni (ex-Fera) blasting liquid nitrogen over the ice cream that you – or if you prefer, one of her handy henchman – have whipped up, thereby solidifying the toffee, meringue and homemade maple syrup popcorn toppings.
