The Ninth | A Cozy, Michelin-Starred French Restaurant With A Mediterranean Twist
Welcome to your new life.
It’s a life overflowing with flame-grilled monkfish on lobster broth, ossobuco and bone marrow tortellini, and caramelised lemon tarts… all cooked up for you by your new best friend Jun Tanaka, chef-patron of your new favourite restaurant The Ninth.
Now the best thing about your new life is that – from this point onwards – whenever someone asks you to a recommend “a cozy, independent, Michelin-starred French restaurant with a Mediterranean twist in Fitzrovia that effortlessly combines date-worthy interiors of exposed brickwork, dark woods and dim lighting with generously apportioned sharing dishes lovingly created by your best pal, Chef Tanaka” you’ll be able to point them in the direction of this place.
Just be sure, when you do, to explain that while yes The Ninth is a laid-back neighbourhood date spot on Fitzrovia’s Charlotte Street that anyone would love to be taken to, it’s also – more importantly – serving up some serious food cooked by your friend Jun (who’s reached this point after training under Marco Pierre White; honing his craft in the kitchens of places like Le Gavroche, Chez Nico and Pearl in Holborn; launching and running his innovative ‘Street Kitchen’; and appearing on lots of TV cookery shows).
This is a chef who turned down multiple offers to join some of London’s finest fine dining restaurants in order to cook the food he loves (like fried Swiss chard with pine nuts and feta-filled ravioli) in the sort of place he loves (a bustling eating house combining antique mirrors and olive banquettes with a really long wine list).
You guys have so much in common.
NOTE: The Ninth is open for lunch and dinner, Monday – Saturday. You can find out more, and book, HERE.
