Back in the late 1930s, Belle Livingstone’s 58th Street Country Club was probably the best place to be in the whole of Prohibition America.

It was a very real champagne-drenched speakeasy where New York’s most glamorous residents – flappers, Broadway darlings, gangsters, heiresses gone rogue, and the occasional off-duty cop – gathered to revel in the illicit thrill of the Jazz Age. A place where the music was hot, the drinks were cold, and the only laws being followed were those of good taste.

Now, nearly a century later, 58th Street is back thanks to The Lost Estate (also the minds behind The Great Christmas Feast and other gloriously indulgent history lessons), who have faithfully resurrected and painstakingly recreated this fabled hideaway for a new generation, creating a world where theatre, live music, and fine dining collide in a single, transportive show. This isn’t just immersive theatre – it’s time travel by way of golden-age glamour and big band brass.

But whisking you back to en era of hot jazz and prohibition-era cocktails wouldn’t be very faithful without hot jazz and, well, prohibition-era cocktails. So, supplying the former will be The 58th Street Stompers, led by legendary trumpeter ‘King’ Rory Simmons – they’ll be backed up by live burlesque artists and top-shelf cabaret stars strutting the stage too. And the drinks? Expect the kind of cocktails that once clinked in the hands of New York’s high society – Manhattans, Clover Clubs, and Swizzles – shaken up and poured into crystal-cut vessels that catch the candlelight just right.

And because part of rebelling against prohibition was indulging heavily, the experience includes a six-course Park Avenue tasting menu from executive chef Ashley Clarke, the former head chef at temper, SMOKESTAK, and Gordon Ramsay at The Savoy. He’s put together a feast worthy of Manhattan’s high society. Think Shrimp & Crayfish Cocktail, Waldorf ‘A La Mode’, Sirloin of Beef with Lobster Bordelaise, and, of course, a fat New York Cheesecake to round it all off.

58th street

This is immersive theatre at its most indulgent. For one glittering night, you are not in London. You are in 1930s New York, where the band swings, the bootleg liquor flows, and Belle Livingstone’s legacy lives on.

Only this time, it won’t get raided by the Feds.

NOTE: 58th Street is currently booking until 18th May 2025. Tickets start from £59.50 and can be purchased at the 58th Street website.
