Aquavit Brunch and Beats

Aquavit Brunch and Beats

Nordic cuisine.

Originally, it was just food for Thor.

Now, however, it has a fully fledged identity – and there’s no better place to sample it than at the slick, majestic structure that is Aquavit London, which has come to us via New York, Tokyo, and 2 Michelin stars.

The London outpost sits in the plush new St. James’ development, sporting art deco chandeliers, green marble flooring and abstract wall art. And it’s here that, of a weekend, they like to serve up brunch involving, smoked eel benedict, Swedish pancakes with blueberries and cream, and, of course, raggmunk. Which, as you no doubt already know, are traditional potato pancakes, served up with bacon and lingonberries. All of which you can wash down with cocktails like the Viking Breakfast, with Aquavit, tomato juice, horseradish, soy sauce and balsamic vinegar, or either bottomless cava or sommelier-picked wine.

Lunch, meanwhile, arrives in the form of a three course set menu, offering a veritable smorgasbord of Nordic delights. Really. Because you can start off with an actual smorgasbord, topped with things like blood pudding, lingonberries and bacon, or mackerel tartare with sorrel and lumpfish roe, before moving on to mains like veal cheek with dill and salt-baked onions; Swedish meatballs with pickled cucumber; or duck breast with liquorice and garlic scapes (the leafy part), finishing off with something light like lemon posset or elderflower sorbet.

However, not content with providing a feast for both your eyes and tastebuds, they’re planning on giving your ears a treat, too. Head down there on any Saturday in July, and you’ll be able to tuck into all their usual brunch and lunch fare, only this time accompanied by the artful record spinning of top-shelf Scandinavian DJs – kicking off with a set from Malin Linnea Cronholm, a Hed Kandi DJ who’s been crowd-pleasing everywhere from Croatia to Burning Man.

Just don’t do a Thor and get hammered.

NOTE: Aquavit Brunch and Beats takes place on Saturdays between 8th and 29th July, 12-4pm. You can reserve a table and find out more HERE.
