A Banquet in Toad Hall

A Banquet in Toad Hall | The Literary Hour

Rats.

They’re generally the last things you’d want to be surprised with at a supper club.

But it’s all (in a very hygienic, savoury way) part and parcel of the next upcoming dining experience from chefs and hosts The Literary Hour, renowned for their quirky and bookish themed dinner parties. Previously they’ve transported their guests to Willy Wonka’s factory, the frosty winters of Narnia, and the forbidden carrot patches of Peter Rabbit, and, gleefully continuing down memory lane in a childlike reverie, they’re now creating an experience based on Kenneth Grahame’s classic, The Wind in the Willows.

Taking place in a secret North London location, the supper club is set to comprise an imaginative five-course banquet, taking inspiration from the book itself – expect picnics with Ratty on the riverbanks, and sumptuous platters from a feast at Toad Hall. Each course will be er, bookended by readings to set the mood, and the whole evening will be dotted with interactive surprises, which, while we can’t reveal what they are, will follow in the footsteps of the snuff boxes for Cider with Rosie, or the 3 course dinner chewing gum created for the Willy Wonka dinners.

Essentially, it’s going to be very special.

For as Ratty (almost) said, “There is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. Except maybe attending secret, themed supper clubs”.

NOTE: A Banquet in Toad Hall took place from 22nd August – 3rd September 2017 at a secret location. Tickets are no longer available.
