Beauty and the Beast.
A heartwarming moral tale that taught us the importance of inner beauty, the dangers of superficiality, and that plants really don’t do well if they’re not kept in fresh water.
But aside from its incomparably useful gardening advice, it also created one of the best imaginary feasts of all time. And finally making that feast a reality are Darling and Edge, who, fresh from designing the eccentric – and just plain beautiful – sets at Gingerline and the bar at Alice’s Adventures Underground, are teaming up with quirky supperclub curators Grub Club to bring you a twisted immersive dining experience, based on the story of Beauty and the Beast.
Just like Belle – albeit with fewer songs being rude about the other people in your town and scrapes with your father’s inventions – you’ll arrive at your castle for the evening; the subterranean Vaults beneath Waterloo station. You’ll make your way through creepy forests before reaching the interior of the castle (stopping off for some themed cocktails first, of course), where you’ll be ushered through the atmospheric labyrinth of brick-walled tunnels by your host for the evening, Fairy Liquid.
She’ll lead you to a theatrical feast like no other – a cascading, gluttonous banquet, serving up dishes like oozing whole spiced pumpkins, venison bangers, blue cheese cheesecake and a forest of meringue mushrooms scattered with spiced ginger jelly, coconut ice cream and squirty whipped cream, as the story unfolds around you. And should you succeed in breaking the spell by the end of the meal, the feast will unravel into a late night party, as characters get up to dance on tables and swing from the chandeliers, and DJs man the decks until the early hours.
And luckily, this isn’t the story where you need to worry about the clock striking midnight…
NOTE: Beauty and the Feast takes place from 6th October – 14th January 2018 at The Vaults. Tickets cost from £45 and can be purchased HERE
