Chiswick Flower Market | Live Music & Bountiful Blooms
‘Thanks a bunch’ sounds a lot less passive aggressive when you’ve just handed that person a bouquet of flowers.
Especially if they come from somewhere as lovely as the Chiswick Flower Market, a monthly gathering of the city’s most green-fingered florists with bucketloads of blooms in tow.
It’s still a relatively new addition to the neighbourhood, having opened in 2020 (making it the first new flower market to open in London for 150 years). And it’s a completely homegrown effort, started by a group of locals who have ambitions to make it West London’s answer to Columbia Road Flower Market.
While it might not yet share the reputation of its counterpart across the city, Chiswick Flower Market already draws the crowds when it descends on the High Road on the first Sunday of every month. Over thirty stalls set up shop along the street’s historic market place, which is conveniently just at the end of Windmill Road (where the tube station is). Between them they cover all the bases – freshly cut stems, plants to grow in your own window-box or garden, house plants, cacti, succulents and more. Then there’s all the extras, too, from hand-thrown ceramic pots to elegant watering cans. Many of the traders have made the move over from Columbia Road, while others are fledgling start-ups testing the waters before they commit to a bricks-and-mortar home.
If you live nearby, you can leave your purchases at the dedicated ‘plant crêche’, and they’ll be delivered to your doorstep by bicycle later on. But for everyone else, you can always take a load off at the many cafés and restaurants lining the street – swing by the High Road Brasserie for an al fresco spritz; scoop up an ice cream from Foubert’s; or make a pitstop at one of the many other excellent restaurants in Chiswick. After all, there’s usually live musicians on hand to give the market a bit of a buzz.
It’s a blossoming neighbourhood…
NOTE: Chiswick Flower Market takes place on the first Sunday of every month on Chiswick High Road. You can find out more HERE.
