Christmas Floating Film Festival

Despite the difficulties of the pandemic, cinemas have still managed to stay afloat.

Which is especially important for this particular cinema.

Popping up every summer and winter, the Floating Film Festival sets up shop on a pontoon amidst the unique surroundings of St. Katharine Docks. Once a working docks, the 200 year old warehouse buildings now look onto a marina populated with yachts and waterside dining terraces. And come the festive season, the place is decked out with strings of lights, and a towering Christmas tree whose thousands of sparkling lights are reflected in the water.

On the roster for this year’s Christmas floating cinema is a slate of festive classics, including Elf, Love Actually, Home Alone and Miracle on 34th Street. They’re all on show between 5th and 11th December, and tickets are a pinch at £15.

Now, watching a film outside in December might not immediately strike you as an enticing proposition, but rest assured the organisers are a dab hand at this now – the pontoon will be covered and heated, and the deck chairs and sofas will be swathed with blankets to enhance the comfort factor even further. Plus, there’ll be mulled wine and hot chocolate on hand to keep you feeling cosy on the inside.

Though that warm & fuzzy festive feeling will be helping a lot, too.
