Frank’s Cafe

NOTE: Frank’s is closed for the winter, and will reopen in May 2025. But you could always visit one of London’s winter rooftops while you wait…

97% of the people who visit multi-storey car parks after dark do so with the primary intention of scoring an eight-ball of crack. That’s a scientific fact.

Which is why you may feel nervous at the prospect of heading to Frank’s Café, which has just reopened for the summer on the 10th floor of a multi-storey car park in Peckham.

But rest assured that this is one of those occasions where fortune really does favour the brave… particularly on a sunny day.

Part of the Bold Tendencies sculpture project, the bar was designed by Paloma Gormley and Lettice Drake, and offers views out to St Paul’s, in addition to a vantage point from which to gawk at the Peckham streets below. In fact, the whole place is dotted with artwork that’s built into the fabric of the building itself, from Richard Wentworth’s silvery aluminium paint trails snaking across the rooftop, to the famous millennial pink staircase painted by Simon Whybray in 2016, to the subtle acoustic walls built into the car park floor below, where pop-up concerts are held against a striking brutalist backdrop.

But back to Frank’s: the drinks menu (executed by the team behind the brilliant Camberwell Arms) includes a choice of eleven different cocktails (negronis, margaritas, and spritzes), Estrella beers and jugs of white port & tonic; while the food options range from ice cream and mezze-style snacks, to stuffed flatbreads on Friday and Saturday nights.

In summary, Frank’s Cafe remains – in the face of rising competition – London’s best bar-on-the-roof-of-a-carpark.

He who dares Rodney. He who dares.
