Glide at Battersea Power Station | Skate Against an Iconic Backdrop
Battersea Power Station is bringing back its ice rink for another year.
Although strictly speaking it’s three ice rinks, all interconnected in a single space and centred around a 30ft glittering Christmas tree. All told, they’re able to handle roughly 300 ice-gliding punters at a time, making it, to use the correct technical terminology, f**king massive. And it’s surrounded by vintage fairground rides, live entertainment, mulled wine, and cosy igloos. Not too shabby.
This year they’re bringing in even more sideshows to the main event, including a vintage carousel, a Helter Skelter, and old-school fairground games like a tin can shooting range. And of course there’ll be dinky chalets hawking pick ‘n’ mix, sugar-dusted churros, and warming grog, with a nice covered bar area where you can enjoy the après-skate (although you could always go for dinner at Joia or Wright Brothers, or cocktails at Control Room B if you wanted to make a real night of it).
Thankfully Battersea Power Station’s ice rink doesn’t come with a massive charge: an adult ticket will set you back £16, which is slightly under the average for most other ice rinks in London. But it is nevertheless still a high quality affair – it’s all being operated by the same folks who also run the rinks at Winter Wonderland and the much-missed one outside the Natural History Museum. Clearly, once you set up one ice rink, you end up setting up another, and another.
It’s a slippery slope.
NOTE: Glide at Battersea Power Station runs from 8th November 2024 – 5th January 2025. Tickets start at £16 for adults – you can find out more, and book now, on the Glide website.
