Over in Marylebone, a pop up cinema is about to appear on a secluded rooftop terrace.
That’s right – they’re loading up the slates.
You’ll find this gloriously festive spot on top of the Holmes Hotel, right opposite its namesake’s house at 221b Baker Street. And while there are a lot of different festive cinema pop ups coming to London this year, this is going to be one of the more intimate spots, seating just eight each night. The reason for that will become abundantly clear when you get up there and take your seat – a fur-lined sofa, housed within your own private mini chalet.
You’ll start your evening in the downstairs restaurant where you’ll be lavished with a winter tasting menu including smoked burrata, black ink cuttlefish croquettes and hazelnut chouqettes, alongside a glass of Champagne. From there, you’ll be led up to the cosy roof terrace, nestled amongst the chimney pots of Marylebone. It’s ridiculously romantic, lit exclusively by candlelight and strings of twinkling festoon bulbs, and sporting fairylit Christmas trees, wreaths, and even a gentle dusting of snow.
The films themselves run the gamut from old classics to cult favourites, including Miracle on 34th Street, It’s A Wonderful Life, Home Alone and Love Actually, and naturally you’ll be supplied with ‘special’ popcorn to accompany your particular choice…
Thank goodness they’re doing something to set this place apart.
NOTE: The Winter Roof Terrace cinema runs at the Holmes Hotel on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11th November – 18th December. Tickets cost £65pp including dinner & Champagne, and can be booked right HERE.
