Jimmy Garcia, prince of pop ups, tycoon of temporary restaurants, baron of BBQs…
His BBQ Club sold out bewilderingly quickly last year, and because he’s not a total idiot, he’s bringing it back, and making it bigger. Twice as big, to be specific.
Returning to its spot on the Southbank this May, the Thames-side venue will be split into two distinct areas:
THE BBQ BAR
This will be a simple walk-up counter, where Big Green Egg BBQ’s will be permanently scorching quick, takeaway dishes like charred monkfish with tarragon mayo; lamb skewers with flat bread, tzatziki & pomegranate; or hot-smoked salmon with grain salad and crème fraîche. They’re all priced under a tenner, and can be washed down with a drink from the on-site bar, too. Then, sitting above all that, there’s the main event:
THE BBQ CLUB
This bookable rooftop area will be twice the size it was last year, seating 60+ people. It’ll serve ever-evolving six-course tasting menus, cooked table-side by a chef on the BBQ built into the very table you’re sitting at. The menus themselves will be “interactive’ (that is, you’ll be cooking one part of each dish yourselves, so you can make sure they’re done to your taste) and will include dishes like miso-glazed charred baby aubergines with pomegranate molasses yoghurt & pickled green chilli; langoustines with roast red pepper puree, black garlic & jamon; and griddled apricots with honey mascarpone & candied orange peel.
To top it all off, there’s a private bar upstairs (to complement the public bar downstairs) where you can score a G&T, draught beer/cider, wine, or one of their ever-changing cocktails.
Because apparently, they like to mix things up.
NOTE: Jimmy’s BBQ Club opens on May 5th. Tickets for the tasting menu cost £45, and are available to book right now at the website HERE.
