One of the great things about JOIA is that it doesn’t just aim high, it starts there.
Partly because of its excellent food, service, and elegant decor, and partly because it’s literally on the 15th floor. A view which isn’t wasted on mere office blocks either, because it looks out over one of the most iconic and striking buildings in the whole city, Battersea Power Station.
So it’s hard to think of a better place to put a rooftop cinema this festive season. Particularly because they’re also giving Nudge Members (and lucky guest) complimentary popcorn and hot toddies.
What can we all expect? Well, your ticket will helpfully include a meal at JOIA itself first. And, to be clear, this isn’t “light bites and a cinema hot dog” territory; expect a selection of petiscos and tapas followed by dishes like glazed aubergine with black olive tapenade, seafood-packed arroz de marisco (loaded with bomba rice, red prawns, mussels & clams), or a veggie orzo verde with asparagus & mushroom. Dessert is torrija—basically caramelised brioche with raspberry Madeira ice cream—which is a strong contender for the real star of the evening.
Once you’ve eaten, it’s up to the roof for blankets, a steaming Hot Toddy (which blends Chivas 12yo Scotch Whisky with bergamot, honey, lemon and ginger), as well as a bucket of the restaurant’s nougat flavoured popcorn as the film starts. There are blanketed seats & sofas, and it’s all covered & heated, just for good measure.
On the roster, there are flicks like Elf, Love Actually, The Holiday, It’s A Wonderful Life, Home Alone, and more, and they’re playing right up until the 22nd of December. So, rooftop or not…
…it’s hard to top.
