London Podcast Festival 2024 | 11 days of live podcasting
Podcasts.
We’re all serial listeners…
And although nowadays every Tom, Dick and Harry seems to have a podcast, there are professionals who separate themselves from the rest of the pack – mostly by participating in things like the London Podcast Festival.
The festival is returning for its ninth rodeo, to be held once again at Kings Place – in King’s Cross – over a week and a half in September (from the 5th-15th). As is the norm, the organisers have rounded up some of the most acclaimed names from both the UK and US podcast scenes, giving you the chance to finally see some of your favourite opinionists in the flesh. Those voices on the other end of your headphones that have kept you company during those long tube commutes for the past however many years? There’s a very real possibility that you’ll be able to put an actual face to them at the London Podcast Festival.
This year’s lineup boasts a mix of comedians, writers, commentators and activists (more than enough for both the serious and the unserious), and here we’ve picked out a few choice highlights:
- Beef and Dairy Network: probably the only meat-based podcast to have ever won a comedy award;
- Three Bean Salad: another chance to catch Mike Wozniak, Henry Paker, and Benjamin Partridge’s eccentric and unique comedy stylings after they sold out three shows last year;
- The History Hotline: Deanna Lyncook’s fascinating dive into Black history and its legacy in the modern world;
- Sporkful: America’s most popular food podcast comes to English shores for a live recording;
- Secretly Incredibly Fascinating: a wide-ranging exploration of the history, science and folk wisdom that lies behind seemingly everyday objects;
- Mixed Up: Nicole Ocran and Emma Slade Edmondson share personal stories to shed light on societal issues that affect the mixed race experience;
- Jameela Jamil: The actress and activist shares pearls of wisdom on all kinds of topics, with a couple of fascinating and well-known guests;
- Like Minded Friends with Tom Allen & Suzi Ruffell: the comedians come together to record their widely loved podcast live on stage;
- Chart Music: The TOTP Podcast: do we need to introduce this one? Clearly an absolute mine of nostalgia, comedy and choons;
- Drunk Huns Solving Ghosts: a one-off collaboration between Drunk Women Solving Crime and Ghost Huns, which hypothetically makes solving a murder sound much easier…
Overall, expect plenty of insightful perspectives, heartfelt conversations, verbal tomfoolery and sound bites. Tickets for the shows are currently on sale and as with anything happening in London, they’ll likely go quickly.
So don’t play it by ear.
