Ottolenghi

Ottolenghi | North African Restaurant By Best-Selling Cookbook Author

Yotam Ottolenghi: political activist, gay rights campaigner, pilates instructor, philosophy and comparative literature major and multi award winning cook-book writer. He also owns and runs Ottolenghi – a North African restaurant with Middle Eastern influences specialising in baked goods, salads and tapas-style fusion food – which, understandably, is just as good as he is.

To make it easier for you us, we’ve handily outlined a number of steps you we like to live by when visiting Yotam Ottolenghi.

Step 1If you plan on having dinner: make a reservation. If you plan on having breakfast or lunch: wake up, make your way to Islington’s Upper Street (preferably via a leisurely stroll along Regent’s Canal), join the short walk-in only queue, and goggle through the giant glass window at the mountain of sun-yellow, inky-blue, and flamingo-pink pastries only moments away.

Step 2: Get in. Browse the salad bar and menus. Choose your food. Wonder why you didn’t choose what your friend ordered. Conclude it’s because you’ll probably eat most of it anyway. Then head to your seat at the giant communal table stretching the length of the rectangle room.

Step 3: Eat whatever you’ve ordered. Which – given the regularly rotating seasonal menu – may include brioche french toast with berry and muscat compote and crème fraîche; chorizo-spiked baked beans served with sourdough and black pudding; and a collection of daily salad specials from the cold counter. For wine, there’s a lengthy list of Italian and Spanish reds, whites, champagnes and rosés.

Step 4: Repeat step 3, except with pastries. Lots of pastries.

Step 5: More wine.

NOTE: Ottolenghi is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, all week long. You can see all availability (and reserve tables) directly HERE. Alternatively, for reservations of more than 4 people please either email [email protected] or call 020 7288 1454
