Uyen Luu manages to spin a lot of plates – and then fill those plates with a lot of delicious food.
She’s a chef, a cookbook author, a food photographer, she hosts cookery classes, and she throws the occasional supperclub too, all from her London Fields studio space.
They’re pretty regular, taking place almost every Saturday (both for brunch & dinner), and you’ll find the space itself down on the banks of the Regent’s Canal, where it sits with a very literal stone’s throw from similarly excellent places like Sune, Cafe Ceila, and The Water House Project. It’s quite a concentration of food talent in one place.
Step inside, and you’ll be greeted by an actual kitchen in an actual studio, with walls lined by shelving that displays alphabets of cookery supplies. The space at the centre is cleared out, tables are pulled in, and tablecloths are thrown over them before being pinned down by plates, utensils and food.
On any given evening, you can expect around 8 courses of Vietnamese goodness, including the likes of warming & nourishing bowls of pho; zippy & fresh chicken papaya salads; fragrant & aromatic 5-spice pork belly, and full-to-bursting summer rolls. Ingredients are frequently pulled from her own garden (or her mother’s), and everything is sustainable wherever possible.
The supperlclubs manage to be consistently good, and she’s had some pretty great endorsements, including a gut-health gold star from Tim Spector and a lovely review from Jamie Oliver. He even chose to use her book, Vietnamese, to kick off his cookbook club.
So if you like what you eat, you can spin up a plate for yourself, too.
NOTE: Uyen Luu’s LoveLeLuu Supperclubs take place most Saturdays, both at brunch & dinner. They cost £60pp. You can book a spot and find out more at her website.
