Things To Do

Lyric Hammersmith

This is a judgement free zone.

So, if you arrive at the Lyric’s roof garden for a pre-theatre snack and get so distracted you end up missing the entire show, we’ll simply nod in agreement and order some more food.

A brief word about the theatre itself: it’s been staging brilliant productions for 125 years, from UK premieres (including new plays by the likes of Timberlake Wertenbaker and Mike Bartlett, or Broadway’s Spring Awakening musical, which later transferred to the West End) to panto, dance, and productions by high-profile visiting companies like Frantic Assembly. Firmly rooted in the local community, the team here are committed to breaking down barriers to theatre however they can, and you’ll find a rich, varied and inclusive programme of shows on offer, starting at around a tenner.

Of course, any theatre needs a good theatre bar for a catch-up before you go in, and a post-show review. The Lyric’s open air rooftop bar is a world away from the traditional, dimly-lit set up. A spacious, greenery-fringed terrace overlooking Lyric Square, you’d describe it as a hidden gem to anyone heading towards Hammersmith.

Dive into small plates to share, like padron peppers, home-made Scotch eggs, BBQ chicken wings and garlic prawns, or tuck into one of their house burgers with loaded fries. Desserts take traditional puds and whack them up a notch, from raspberry and vanilla soufflé to rich chocolate & caramel slices.

But if you’re just popping into the Lyric bar before catching a show, you’ll find plenty of happiness on the drinks menu. Cocktails come in glass or jug form, incorporating locally sourced spirits with some of Lyric’s own ‘secret ingredients’. Bottled beers, ciders and cans make up a hefty portion of the remaining menu with the classics available on draught, too.

And, if you need any further encouragement, The Lyric bar has a post-show evening deal where, if you order two large glasses of wine, you’ll get the rest of the bottle for free.

Something that might just motivate even the non-theatre-loving friends among your group to see a show.

NOTE: The Lyric Hammersmith’s bar is open Mon-Sat (no food on Mondays). You can reserve a table HERE, or book tickets to see a show HERE.
