Things To Do

The Largest Oktoberfest in the UK is landing in Clapham

Perhaps ironically there’s nothing common about Oktoberfest on the Common.

It is, after all, the largest Oktoberfest party in the UK, and is expected to see 17.5 thousand barley-pop-drenched revellers putting away roughly 35 thousand litres of beer over the course of two October weekends on Clapham Common.

Those are the essential points. And as for the details? Well, they’re promising “stellar music, fairground rides, keg-tapping, photo booths, authentic foods and hammerschlagen”, the latter of which is a very fun game that involves revellers driving nails into wooden beams, and sounds like a perfect, very safe activity for people who have had roughly two litres of beer each.

The food is going to be highly sausage-led, with a pretty wide variety of brats ranging from the classics, to krajauer smokey bacon bangers, kasekrainer chilli & cheese filled numbers, vegan & vegetarian sausages, and more. They’ll all be cooked up on fancy ‘swing grills’ capable of scorching 400 sausages per hour. And finally, they’re keen to keep the dress code as authentic as possible, with dirndls, Tyrollean hats, lederhosen, and all the Teutonic vibes.

Prost.
