Pop Up Japan

Pop Up Japan | Proud Haggerston

Japan, the Land of the Rising Sun…

…a title which already makes it difficult to recreate in April, in London.

But Proud East in Haggerston are having a good go of it with their 10 week takeover, featuring Japanese-inspired food, entertainment, cocktails, and workshops.

Here’s what’ll be going down:

THE FOOD

Tonkotsu are taking over Proud East’s theatrical open kitchen for the duration, serving up street food classics like freshly made gyoza, crab korokke and chicken kara-age, as well as their signature creamy ramen. Sozai cooking school will also be on hand to serve up sushi masterclasses.

THE DRINK

Representing the two sides of Tokyo, there’ll be tea ceremonies and matcha blending experiences, as well as cocktail mixing workshops that teach you how to do dangerously delicious things with a bottle of sake.

THE NOT-FOOD-OR-DRINK

After which, you’ll be ready to head along the blossom-lined banks of Regent’s Canal, browsing the market stalls heaped with authentic Japanese crafts, fashion, and homeware – take a seat on the terrace to catch a screening courtesy of outdoor cinema kings Nomad; try your hand at learning the art of origami, or just head to the neon-lit club nights in Proud East featuring live Japanese musicians, comedians and DJs all night…

Until the sun (at least theoretically) rises.

NOTE: Proud East’s Pop Up Japan officially launches on 6th April and is open daily (Tonkotsu kitchen will be open Wed-Sun) until 18th June. You can just turn up, and find out more about their events calendar on the website HERE.
