Things To Do

Prosecco Springs

Prosecco Springs.

They may not be much use in a mattress, but heck are they delicious.

Which is exactly why the eponymous festival is returning for a second year at Bethnal Green’s Oval Space this month. After their successful debut in which they plied punters with masterclasses, Italian street food and bountiful prosecco, they’re back to do – well, exactly that. Only this time, it’s even better.

So what can you expect in real terms?

THE BOOZE

They’ve invited another great raft of bubble producers for this year, who the team have flown out to meet personally to ensure they’re only bringing the best bottles back for your delectation. This year they include the Frozza family (who’ve been producing wine since the 1870s) and Bottega, who serve their bubbles out of golden bottles – and you’ll be able to sample up to eight glasses over your 5 hour session. And if you prefer your prosecco with a distinctly orange tint, there’ll also be a dedicated Aperol Spritz bar.

THE FOOD

The Italian street food offering has been souped up this year – so not only can you net authentic pizzas to soak up the drinks, there’s also going to be Venetian cichetti (snacks) – like lasagne rolls, arancini, and polenta chips drizzled with truffle bechamel. All of which you can tuck into as you bop your head to the live jazz and DJ sets taking place throughout the session.

THE MASTERCLASSES

They say you learn something new every day – and on this particular day, the thing you’ll be learning about will largely concern how prosecco is produced, how to distinguish between different varietals, and how best to pair them with your food. Or, for the mixology-minded, you can plump for the cocktail masterclass, in which you’ll learn how to make five prosecco-based drinks, sink one of them, and sample another two.

That’ll definitely put a spring in your step.

NOTE: Prosecco Springs takes place at Oval Space in Bethnal Green from 26th-29th April. Sessions last 5 hours and include up to 8 glasses of prosecco. Tickets cost £40 for basic entry, £55 to include the prosecco masterclass and £40 + £30 for the cocktail masterclass – you can find out more and book tickets HERE.
