Things To Do

Slomo Sauna

If you’re in the mood for a little wholesome masochism, then get ready to be happy, because Slomo Sauna is back.

Yes, after a clearly-very-successful opening run at the start of this year, you will once again be able to head to a pop up sauna in King’s Cross, strip down to your swimmers, and basically turn yourself into a human dumpling before plunging into a terrifyingly cold ice bath, and remarking to everyone who’ll listen how deeply invigorating and refreshing it is.

It’s brought to us by DJ Rob Da Bank and his wife Josie (Da Bank?). And just to briefly explain that rather incongruous connection: they both co-founded Bestival which, as is the case with most cool indie-boho music festivals, soon attracted wellness-adjacent activities like Scandinavian saunas. And as ol’ Rob has matured, his interests have clearly migrated away from the decks and towards the decking. Hence he is now fully behind Slomo Sauna.

The regular sessions are for 50 minutes, followed by an (optional) dip in one of the tiny plunge pools or the rather large six-person ice tank. The saunas each hold about half a dozen people at a time, and they’ve got a pretty great program of stuff for anyone looking beyond the standard sit-and-sweat routine, including:

  • Hot yoga – which is verrrrry hot indeed, and adds half hour of “contrast bathing”
  • Sauna Sister – which, as you may have gleaned, is a female only session
  • Sauna Masters – in which a certified sauna pro will go to town with aromatherapy, body scrubs, face masks, and something called “Lithuanian leaf whisking”
  • Chill Out Sessions – hosted by Rob Da Bank himself, involving some curated music and a little guided breath work
  • Silent Sauna Session – just the crackle of burning logs
  • Sunday Best Sessions – in which you’ll get gong baths, comedy sets, acoustic bands, and more.

The whole thing is part of a larger mental health campaign called Mind Your Brain, which is there to try and remind people to destress and unwind your frazzled post-Christmas psyche. And the bet bit? The most you’ll pay for any of the sessions is just £12. So you won’t need to – and you knew this pun was coming…

…rob da bank.

NOTE: Slomo Sauna is set to run between 17th January & 2nd March 2025 (closed on Tuesdays). You can book a session at the Slomo website.
