Kate Bush is topping the charts.
Top Gun is dominating the box office.
People are paying money to hairdressers to give them mullets.
Yes, the ’80s are back, baby. And the reason Kate Bush finally has her first number one single for 37 years is simple: Running up that Hill was featured in one episode from the new season of Stranger Things. That’s how immensely popular and impactful the show is. So it’s not exactly surprising that there’s a parody musical based on the series.
And sure, this isn’t some lah-di-dah ‘official’ production, but it’s not just some slip-shod novelty project either – Stranger Sings has already debuted in New York and has swept up over half a dozen awards (inducing Best New Musical) at the Off Broadway Awards. The reviews of the show say that while it’s not perfect, it is extremely funny, heartfelt, and clearly enamoured with the show.
It’s coming to London this October (tickets, however, are available right now), specifically at The Vaults in Waterloo. And frankly, if you were to pick any location to act as a surrogate for The Upside Down, then the subterranean labyrinth of disused railway arches that is The Vaults would be it.
The plot is based roughly around season one of the show: Will is missing, and everyone is going batsh*t crazy trying to find him. You’ll see all the familiar characters, a host of original songs, and “maybe, just maybe, justice for Barb”. And it’ll all be wrapped up in a succinct 80 minutes.
Oh, and the kicker? The show is running ‘Pay What You Can’ nights on Wednesday & Sunday, so you can choose how much your tickets cost. We know – good value theatre, on a weekend, in London?
Stranger things have happened…
NOTE: Stranger Sings is headed to The Vaults in Waterloo from 5th October 2022 until 15th January 2023. You can find out more, and get your tickets at there website right here.
