Many things are better when done al fresco.
Like eating, drinking, and pretending you know a smattering of Italian…
But now you can add a whole host of other activities to that list, thanks to the return of the Summer Festival at Alexandra Palace (check out a video of last year’s event here). Adopting a ‘Summer of Love’ theme to celebrate the 14 Hour Technicolour Dream concert staged there fifty years ago, this year’s shindig is set to be their most eccentric and expansive yet.
Because aside from four live music stages showcasing everything from brass bands to funk & soul sets from Craig Charles; the street food village (with appearances from Le Bun, CLAW and Sticky Beaks); and the numerous bars scattered across the grounds serving up everything from craft beers to cocktails in watermelons, you’ll also be stumbling across:
A GIANT WATERSLIDE – hopefully not literally, but given that it’s 100m long and goes careering over the rolling hills of the Ally Pally grounds, it’s pretty hard to miss;
AN OUTDOOR CINEMA – where you can catch Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery as the sun sets over the entirety of the panoramic London skyline below you;
CLOSE UP THEATRE – courtesy of the ground-breaking theatre company Chickenshed; storytelling maestros, the Crick Crack Club; and the acrobatic, slapstick-strewn Cirque Bordello from Lost in Translation Circus; plus…
A SECRET, SILENT DISCO – hidden away, deep within the Alexandra Palace woodland.
Which, once more, raises the age old question…
…if a tree falls during the disco, will it make a sound?
NOTE: The Summer Festival at Alexandra Palace takes place on 22nd July from 12-10pm. It’s totally free to attend but some of the events above are ticketed, and booking ahead is advised – which you can do on their website HERE.
