We're Holding A Pair Of Exclusive Wine Tastings With Sunny Hodge

You won’t find many people in this city with a better wine CV – or a more pun-friendly name – than Sunny Hodge. His approach to wine really is, dare we say, a ray of light in the industry.

He’s won awards, written for broadsheets, been on TV, sat on high profile judging panels and, most crucially, opened two of London’s best wine bars (Diogenes the Dog, and Aspen & Meursault). Now, he’s about to add “author” to the list, with the launch of his new book The Cynic’s Guide to Wine. To mark the occasion, Sunny’s hosting two exclusive wine-tasting events for Nudge members on 20th and 27th February. For just £37pp, you’ll get two hours of wine wisdom, five tastings, plenty of nibbles, and Sunny himself leading the session.

So, what’s an “advanced tasting session,” exactly? Well, it’s a little more in-depth than your average wine night (but still newbie-friendly), with a twist that sets it apart. Sunny kicks things off by introducing the venue and explaining the concept behind his book – think fast-paced, engaging, and genuinely educational. Drawing on his scientific background, he’ll bust a few wine myths and give you a crash course in “terroir”, and how to taste it.

Here’s the kicker: after working through four wines and chatting about their unique characteristics, you’ll taste a mystery fifth wine blind. Using the skills you’ve just learned, you’ll guess where it’s from—turning all that newly acquired knowledge into a mini Sherlock Holmes moment.

There’ll be plenty of snacks to keep you fuelled for this wine-detective work, including sharing platters of seasonal cheeses, charcuterie meats (think truffle salami and finocchiona), red pepper hummus, baked new potatoes with ‘nduja and smoked cheddar, and grilled chorizo bites.

The first event takes place on 20th February at Diogenes the Dog, with the second on 27th February at Aspen & Meursault. Judging by the rave reviews Sunny’s tastings usually get, these sessions will be nothing short of excellent.

Even the cynics will drink to that.

NOTE: The two wine tasting events will take place on February 20th at Diogenes the Dog, and February 27th at Aspen & Meursault. Tickets cost £37pp and include 5 wines, all nibbles, and a guided tasting from Sunny. You can find out how to book them in the ‘Exclusive Tasting’ box at the top of this page. You can check out his new book HERE.
