The Great Christmas Feast | An Immersive, Dickensian Banquet
What the Dickens is the best immersive Christmas feast taking place in London this festive season?
Funny you should ask.
Because it’s unquestionably The Great Christmas Feast; a ravishing retelling of Dickens’ Christmas Carol, with a four course banquet woven into the story itself. The whole thing is set in a secret Victorian yuletide dining room & bar, hidden away behind a nondescript door in Bermondsey. So allow us to introduce you to the ghosts of…
The various musicians, writers, chefs and designers behind this particular venue are also responsible for past shows like In Night’s Darkling Glory, The Great Masked Ball, Beauty and the Feast and many more. To say they know what they’re doing is somewhat stating the obvious, and last year’s show understandably sold out.
Alongside the iconic story, told by Mr. Dickens himself, this year’s experience features live music, Dickensian cocktails (taken directly from a recipe book written by Dickens’ grandson), and a feast put together by temper’s Neil Rankin and former NOPI head chef, David Lagonell. Their menu involves the likes of charred mackerel & apple with smoked bonbons, roasted hazelnuts & Douglas fir; a sharing platter of wild pheasant, game sausages, chestnuts, pears & roasted roots; flavours of honey and toast with almonds & spiced fruits; and more. And if you want to have a proper knees-up, Fezziwig-style, you can opt for tickets that’ll give you access to an open bar. All night.
Which involves you, making merry at a round table surrounded by stacks of books, candles and 19th century festive bric-a-brac, having wisely booked your seats long in advance. Because once the tickets are gone, they’re gone.
Like a ghost.
NOTE: The Great Christmas Feast takes place 22nd November 2019 – 4th January 2020. Tickets cost £34-44 (non-dining) or £79-109 (dining), and you can book here. Open bar tickets cost an additional £49pp.
