You know what makes jazz rhythms truly great? Unexpected

…timing.

Of course, when it comes to truly great jazz gigs, you want a teeny bit more predictability. And the Jamaican Jazz Sessions are going to be some truly great gigs.

They’re coming to us courtesy of Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum & Gilles Peterson, who’ve teamed up celebrate Jamaica’s extraordinary influence on contemporary British jazz. That celebration will take the form of four gigs at some of the city’s best music venues, each led by a new wave artist hand-picked by Gilles Peterson.

It’s all kicking off the week of Jamaican Independence Day, with the first gig on the 7th of August. The shows will then run once a week until the final headline gig on the 22nd, when the insanely talented drummer, producer, and composer Moses Boyd, will join legendary Jamaican trombonist Vin Gordon, at London Bridge’s multi-disciplinary cultural hub Omeara.

Tickets for all the gigs will be kept extremely affordable, coming in at just £5-£10 each. For ease, we’ve listed the full line-up below:

Ife Ogunjobi (August 7th, at NT’s London Fields) – one of the shining stars of the London jazz scene, Ife’s genre-spanning sound effortlessly blends Afrobeat, hip hop, and gospel. Get tickets here.

Yazmin Lacey (August 15th, at Jack Solomons Club, Soho) – a self-taught singer, Yazmin’s smooth, soulful sound has garnered her effusive praise from fans like Jamie Cullen & Erykah Badu. Get tickets here.
